Recently the Marinin Theater held a premier of Richard Wagner's Das Rheingold. This is the start of the project of the group, which plans to present the entire DER RING DES NIBELUNGEN. The opera was presented on the stage of the Marinin Theater in 1905, then later in 1933. The cult of Wagner in Hitler's Germany had put a ban on his music in the USSR in the 1940's and 1950's. Thanks to Valeryi Gergiev the theater will return the composer's music back into its repertoire. For the first time, the opera on the Marinin stage the opera will be performed in German. By 2003, the city anniversary, the theater intends to complete the entire tetrology. The performers are already planning a world tour with this work.
