Toni Braxton's new album is a very good witness to the logical evolution of rhythm and blues. The music that turned the whole music industry upside down during the 1950's has finally become absolutely predictable, but at the same time maintaining its quality. The story of Toni Braxton's life over the last several years is full of various adventures, and not only musical ones. Yet this doesn't get in the way of producing a wonderful, well-selling product. "The Heat" concisely maintains a balance between fast R&B and melodic ballads, only at rare instances recalling the religious intonations of soul music. It didn't go without the participation of some rappers (Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez from TLC and Doctor Dre- while the duet with the latter just happened to be the best track on the album). For everything else, including the performance, you will have to watch MTV.
