Вечер 6 июля 1957 года. Ливерпуль. После выступления любительской
скиффл-группы The Quarryman в саду приходской церквушки района Вултон гитарист
бэнда Джон Леннон (09.10.1940) познакомился с зашедшим на огонёк Полом
МакКартни (1806.1942). Этот парень так впечатлил Джона своей игрой на гитаре,
что тот принял его в состав группы.
В 1958 году к ансамблю присоединился ещё один гитарист - Джордж Харрисон
(25.02.1943). Ещё через год группа обрела новое название - The Silver Beetles.
В составе появился приятель Джона Стюарт Сатклифф (23.06.1940), по настоянию
друга взявшийся за бас-гитару.
В 1960 году начался период интенсивных клубных выступлений и весьма авантюрных
гастрольных поездок. Периодически меняя ударников и аккомпанируя различным
вокалистам, ансамбль выступал в разных забегаловках и стриптиз-барах. За
барабанами в конце-концов утвердился Пит Бест (экс-Blackjacks, 1941), название
же трансформировалось в The Beatles - сочетание слов "beat" (ритм) и
"beetles" (жуки).…
